Technical committees

Every new initiative to standardise is put on the agenda of the relevant technical committee or is picked up by a newly formed technical committee.

A technical committee is a group of expert stakeholders (usually around 10 people) striving for consensus on a new subject and developing a new or revised standard.

The BEC facilitates the working meetings and the necessary correspondence between committees, subcommittees and working groups.

A technical committee can call on subcommittees and/or working groups to manage or support certain aspects of the standardisation process.

All electrotechnic committees within the BEC are essentially national mirrors of European and international technical (sub)committees, in their turn composed of mandatories from the various national technical committees. Part of the latter's role is to voice the national perspective on an initiative to standardise.
